I know this is relaxing, but the problem is my anxiety comes without warning, and I can’t just drop everything and do this exercise. What should I do?

Dr.Expert:

It’s important to practice the tense and relax exercise often, whether you are feeling anxious or not. If you practice regularly, the exercise will work better to reduce your overall stress and anxiety. Although it may feel a bit boring at first, you will eventually get so good at it that you will use it for the rest of your life to help cope.

Sometimes I want to do this when I’m not allowed (or able) to listen to the MP3 recording, like on an airplane when the flight attendant tells everyone to put away electronic devices. What should I do?

Dr.Expert:

Try reading the script a few times to yourself while you do the actions. Once you have done tense and release a few times, you’ll be able to do it on your own without a script. You body will remember how to do it.
